JUJU
Juju – Juju is the fourth studio album by British alternative rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was recorded at Surrey Sound studio with Nigel Gray as co-producer, and was originally released on 6 June 1981 by record label Polydor. Two singles were released from Juju: Spellbound” and “Arabian Knights”. The album was commercially successful in the UK. It was acclaimed by critics upon it’s release, with praise given particularly to John McGeoch’s unconventional guitar playing and Siouxsie’s vocal performances. It remains a critical favourite and is seen as a landmark album of post-punk.
TINDERBOX
Tinderbox is the seventh studio album by English alternative rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was originally released April 21, 1986 by Wonderland and Polydor Records in the United Kingdom and by Geffen Records in the United States. It was the band’s first full-length effort recorded with then-new guitarist John Valentine Carruthers. Two songs were released as singles between late 1985 and early 1986, “Cities in Dust” and “Candyman”. Tinderbox peaked at number 88 on the US Billboard 200. The album was written to be presented live on stage in full like Juju was in 1981 on it’s subsequent tour. After rehearsing the songs for months, the band went abroad in Berlin to record the new material. Pressed on 180 Gram vinyl.
THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
Through The Looking Glass – Siouxsie & The Banshees – Through the Looking Glass is the eighth studio album by English alternative rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. The album is a collection of cover versions. It was co-produced with Mike Hedges and released in March 1987 on Polydor. Through the Looking Glass was preceded by the single “This Wheel’s on Fire”. It was the second and final album recorded with guitarist John Valentine Carruthers. Some of their cover songs were praised by the original artists themselves. The title of the record, Through the Looking Glass, referred to Lewis Carroll’s book of the same name. The band had already been inspired by Carroll’s work when naming their label, Wonderland, which was derived from Alice in Wonderland. The record was also an ode to David Bowie’s Pin Ups, a covers album recorded in the early 1970s.
JOIN HANDS
Siouxsie & The Banshees Join Hands [LP] Join Hands is the second studio album by British alternative rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was originally released in September 1979 by the record label Polydor. Upon it’s release, it was hailed by the British press, including Melody Maker, Sounds, NME and Record Mirror. – Join Hands took the topic of the First World War as it’s inspiration. Musically, it is darker than the band’ debut album The Scream: it sounds more claustrophobic and more haunting. It was the last album with the band’s first recorded line-up, as guitarist John McKay and drummer Kenny Morris quit the group after a disagreement at the beginning of the British Join Hands tour, on the day of the album’s release. – Join Hands was written over a period of six months. In 1979, the band watched news reports from Iran, including scenes of repression and curfews; it was one of the first times they had seen images of people being shot and killed on television
