Vinyl LP pressing. 2017 release. Founded in 2005, Grai can already look back on an EP and three albums, as well as numerous festival shows, European tours and concerts alongside bands such as Arkona, Dalriada or Alestorm. Irina Zybina (vocals), Ruzel Ruzveld” (guitar), Aliya “Leta” (flutes, bag-pipes, vocals), Yuri “Sadist” (bass, growls, kaljuka) Vitold Buznaev (guitar, growls) and Ilnur (drums) combine “classic” metal elements like heavy guitar riffing, massive drums and harsh growls with traditional folkloristic instruments and clear, polyphonic female vocals. The Russian lyrics are sometimes cheerful, sometimes thought-provoking and sometimes patriotic. Now the six Russians present their fourth studio album Ashes. Once more Grai succeed in perfectly mixing charming folklore sounds and powerful metal. The eleven songs deal with the memory of the past, tragic stories about (missing) love and life in general – the lyrics are influenced by the musicians’ personal experiences and tales from the Russian culture. Ashes is an album full of heart and passion, versatile and colorful: The songs range from acoustic instrumental pieces to neck-breaking metal. A true piece of the Russian soul!
